Acupressure in Perinatal Period
The 1 day workshop is for health professionals who have no previous acupressure training.

Research published in western medical journals such as Complementary Therapies in Medicine and The Journal of Midwifery & Women's Health conclude that acupressure is a safe, non-invasive, non pharmacological method of reducing pain in labour. These studies will be examined; detailing the acupressure points and methods used to produce these results.

The workshop includes:
  • Brief overview of Traditional Chinese Medicine and acupressure
  • Research on the use of acupressure in pregnancy and labour
  • The indications and use of 10 acupressure points: nausea & vomiting, breech or posterior presentation, labour 'priming', encouraging strong contractions, retained placenta, afterbirth pains, and promoting breastfeeding let down.
  • An extensive practical hands-on competency session that involves locating 10 acupressure points and use. Please wear comfortable clothes, preferably not a dress.

  • Fee including course notes and morning tea. Lunch is not provided.
    The course attracts 7 points continuing professional development points.
